The only reason to stop in this tiny town is to wait the 7 hours for the train to Riga.I found no better connection, and still, guess what the train for Riga leaves at 5:12am.

But I like small places and booked myself into Maria’s Hostel, only to find the place closed after walking the 1,5km from the train station. I called the number posted on the door, soon Maria arrived with her little dog and showed me the house, two other people stayed there, not bad for 30€

There are more expensive hotels, but I did not feel spending money for a place that I only crashed for a couple of hours.

Conspirateur- only restaurant open
For people watching there is a small park on a pond and the “Conspirateur” a restaurant in the center of town, the only one that was open, that served delicious salmon.
Valga ist not the most picturesque place, but I loved its small town, frontier charm.

Walking through sleeping Valga at 4:45 has its charm, at least I was not the only person at the train station. I was really happy when the first sun reached the compartment, since it was a bit chillt. One hour before Riga the train filled up.train filled up.
